Recently the President and Foreign Minister of Lebanon attended a summit in Doha, Qatar, as members of good standing of the Arab Leaders and Diplomats Club. This is reflective of Beirut’s new status in the Middle East, however fragile it still may be. Over the past year, since Hezbollah’s resounding defeat by Israel, conditions in Lebanon have improved quite notably when compared to the sorry state of affairs characteristic of the last few decades. Thanks to the demise of both of the Shiite movement’s leader Nasrallah and the Assad regime, Iran’s ability to resupply and rehabilitate Hezbollah has been severely hampered, not to mention Iran itself being now much weaker following the June War.
