The current phase of the Iran war has two apparent dimensions – facts and face. The first refers to the military, political, diplomatic and economic reality involving Washington, Tel Aviv and Tehran, and in fact most elsewhere in this interdependent world. The second refers to the need to save public face and declare victory, or at least to claim that the investment in blood and resources was not in vain. As we are waiting to see whether the American-Iranian talks turn out to be fruitful or fateful, let’s try to sum up this month of war and peer ahead through the fog and smoke.
