The US was quickest off the mark, with President Biden using his podium, power and plane in an attempt to contain the crisis, support Israel and prevent her enemies ganging up on her. Russia and China lagged behind, openly siding with the forces hostile to Israel and having no leverage over Jerusalem.
Could this outline of strategic competition change over the next phases of the Israel-Hamas war? Would it be fair to say that the Americans are back in force in the Middle East, having now reversed the trend of withdrawal?
