Donald Trump’s Arabian Peninsula tour puts in stark relief the administration’s foreign policy in the Middle east. The President focused on the Gulf, rather than on the Levant, and the leaders of Syria and Lebanon made their pilgrimages East in order to curry favour with him. Trump’s focus was clearly on the economic aspects of bi-lateral relations and efforts to stop, or at least de-escalate, violent conflicts.
