In Acts 2, Peter says David was a prophet who knew God’s promise about a future Descendant and looked ahead to speak about the Messiah’s resurrection. In this week’s AskFOI, we welcome Brian Overholtzer. He explains why David consciously wrote about the coming King, even though he didn’t know every detail of the Messiah’s life. David wrote about his own experiences, but he also drew on earlier prophecies about the Messiah. Brian traces connections between Genesis 49, Hannah’s prayer, and Psalm 2, showing how David’s words point to a future King who will rule over the nations. We’ll also come to understand a broader truth to consider while reading the Old Testament: The New Testament isn’t changing the meaning of David’s words! It identifies Jesus as the promised Messiah the Psalms already described.
