On this week’s Politics Today, Simon Barrett is joined by Melanie Symonds, editor of Heart newspaper, and Stephen Briggs of Israel Matters to discuss whether Britain’s increasingly strained relationship with Israel is damaging its special relationship with the United States. British–Israeli relations are at a historic low. The Labour government has imposed economic sanctions targeting Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria, while reports earlier this month suggested that it was considering closing the Israeli Embassy in London and requiring 27 diplomats and their families to leave the country. Given the close political, military and cultural ties between the United States and Israel, is the Labour government causing lasting damage to Britain’s special relationship with the US—and, in turn, threatening the national interest and Britain’s security? And is the British government ignoring the prophetic warning in Joel 3:12 about dividing the land and scattering its people as it pursues the creation of a Palestinian state?
